ONTOLOGYVM · A WORLDVM EXPLORATION
Write your platforms down.
Then run them.
Your Stripe prices, Salesforce picklists, Okta groups, and GitHub teams already depend on each other. OntologyVM keeps them as typed source, plans every change against the live accounts, applies it in order, and notices when someone edits a dashboard by hand.
Simulated in your browser. Nothing here talks to Stripe, Salesforce, or Okta, and the Forma syntax is a v0.2 design that will change.
HOW IT WORKS
Source, check, plan, apply. Then keep watching.
-
1
Write it down
Each platform has a prelude, so you write Stripe’s words for Stripe and Salesforce’s for Salesforce. They all share one standard library of types.
-
2
Check it as one program
A rename in Salesforce is an error in Okta, reported at file:line:col before anything is deployed.
-
3
Plan against live
Each platform’s reconciler reads the live account and diffs it against source. You review one plan that covers every platform.
-
4
Apply, then keep watching
Changes run in dependency order. A hand edit becomes a drift event, which you can revert or adopt into source.
THE STACK
The language is open. The VM runs it.
Open Ontology says what your config means and stays pure: no network, no disk. OntologyVM is the part that touches the world. It holds state, talks to platforms, keeps history, and decides who may apply.
- OntologyVMRuns the program: state, plans, approvals, apply, drift, and history for every account you connect.
-
Open OntologyThe language: platform preludes, a standard library of types, and
oo checkandoo elaborate. - SchematicsThe reconciler engine: providers, desired-versus-observed planning, and ordered apply.
- TriplexThe memory: every release, observation, and applied change, with who did it and why.
WHAT IT’S FOR
For the config nobody owns.
Every company runs a dozen SaaS admins’ worth of settings that no code review ever sees. OntologyVM puts them on the record.
- Bring click-ops under reviewImport an existing org as source, then review platform changes as pull requests instead of finding them in Setup audit trails.
- Let agents administer, safelyAgents edit source and propose plans that are checked before you see them. Applying stays with people.
- Rename once, everywhereRename a plan, a profile, or a team in one file. The plan shows every platform that changes with it.
- Ask your config questionsWhich Okta groups grant Salesforce admin? Which Stripe prices have no picklist value? Query the whole estate with Datalog.
Honest status
- OntologyVM is a design. The demo above runs on a toy actor and machine runtime in your browser.
- Open Ontology’s checker runs today for its own ontology prelude. The Stripe, Salesforce, Okta, and GitHub preludes are a v0.2 design.
- Schematics has a working pull, plan, and apply loop against example providers, not yet against these platforms.
- Hosted state, approvals, and accounts at ontologyvm.com are not built.
